Dear Kaneland Staff and Families: As you know, the Kaneland staff have the opportunity to receive their second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday through Thursday this week. The second dose is affecting many of our staff members with a variety of side effects. We have approximately 125 teachers and support staff members that have called in sick today. Unfortunately, there are not enough substitutes to cover the absences of our staff.
Therefore, there will be NO SCHOOL today, Thursday, March 11, 2021 for any Kaneland student. This day will be considered an emergency day and one makeup day will be added to the end of the school year. The last day of the 2020-2021 school year will be announced after spring break.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Kaneland District Administration
I wonder if this could be a 'solidarity' project where a bunch of teachers and staff agreed to call in sick because they don't want to be there anyway - because they believe it's too dangerous to be working.
Because why wouldn't we be seeing this in many other places as well?
There are reports of it other places as well. I posted links above about France having to slow their roll out due to too many health care workers being out at the same time, plus other posters mentioning other school closures.
Thanks. I haven't seen those.
