Appears to be normal this time of year.

Beijing faces regular sandstorms in March and April due to its proximity to the massive Gobi desert as well as deforestation and soil erosion throughout northern China.

Yup it does, I wouldn't want to go through that either. I had no idea if it was normal or not, so I looked it up, and the link & quote was like the second article I found that said it happens in March & April. Crazy!
