Wasn't Grant the one who pledged the lives of American citizens in some deal making the US a company, or something? Hard to get reliable info on this...

He was president from 1869-1877. The (illegal) Congressional Act of 1871 was passed during his administration.

No not Wilson, it's Grant, the 18th president. So people keep saying Trump will be the 19th. Like we didn't have one of those because the actual 19th was president of the corporation rather than the republic.
