The price of a pressure treated 2x4x8' was a little over 2 bucks around December 2019 here. Same lumber yard a week ago for the same 2x4x8' pressure treated boards was 10 bucks. Prices crept up through 2020 to 3, 4, 5 bucks now it seems they are spiking hard. Could be location, could be a supply chain issue but I know I'm not alone so just a heads up.
This may not be the main cause and it's not something I've looked at very closely but I heard from someone here in Australia that their family business (lumber export) was suffering because of the trade issues between Australia and China. The same thing is happening with a range of goods.
Makes sense. I am in the north east of the USA. Loads of trees here but of course no one wants any timber logging or forestry here. Most of the lumber I see at the yards here is stamped Canada. I know the border has been closed for us common folk, I wouldn't think they close it for trade as well.
You're right you called me out - I rounded down. I'm in the northern part of NY. The prices were in the range of $2.25 and $2.50 with bulk discount in late 2019.
Wait what?
My dad was thinking about building a home too...

I wonder if that's one of the main factors.
