It would be very very hard to turn a ship of that size. Does not seem plausible to me. I grew up sailing boats at a yacht club. Max wind I would sail in is about 20 knots = 23mph. Professionals can sail in 26 knots and up which = 30 mph. They claimed winds got up to 30 an turned one of the biggest cargo ships ever? Not a chance. Also I would like to know the way the ship was facing and also which direction the wind was coming from. But it does not seem like it is possible
However the high profile aspect of a container ship would make vulnerable to desert winds, IF they didn't have a skilled helmsman at the wheel.. if they relied on the computer... I remember a helmsman in the Navy who never got off course, but in 2 foot seas break water over the bow.. A VERY difficult thing to do. :)
Those ships cruise in horrifying conditions on the open ocean mate.
Just 30 mph ?? Guess again
LOL...about as possible as the wind knocking old Joe down,,,,3 times.
well i dont sea any sails.............never mind forget it. the thing you arent seeing is those boats ARE SAILS. How Does your Sailboat run with just a kicker motor?
