It might be both lol. I was one of the first in the US to beta test it last year. You literally take it out of the box, sit it outside and plug it in. It comes up, deploys the dish and starts tracking satellites. I went from shit tier rural internet to 150MBs in 5 minutes the day I got mine. It's amazing.
But I also think based on Elon's cryptic posts lately that he knows a lot more than he's letting on. I'm wondering if Starlink will be used to spread info after the storm hits since it's independent of the big ISPs.
Depends. If you're rural with no cell coverage or regular internet, $99 a month for Starlink is cheaper than satellite.
The dish itself is $500 I think...maybe 600. BUT it costs them over $2000 to make them and you have no commitment. I can cancel tomorrow if I want. They also just updated my firmware last week to I'm getting over 300MBs now
I used to live on 100 acres in NE washington state. 3 miles from BC and 70 mile roundtrip for groceries. I moved to Spokane a few years ago because I couldn't work up there anymore with fucking hughes net. Now I'm trying to get back up there. Starlink is changing lives.
Priest is awesome. I lived up along the kettle river which is north of kettle falls and roosevelt lake. Land is still cheap up there, just need to figure out a game plan
This. I am currently looking for lots of land in the middle of nowhere with all the privacy and self-sustainability... but I worry about not having quality internet for work. And online gaming from time to time is fun too :)
I want one! - I think...
Just ordered it... expecting this fall. :)
Is this the Elon Musk product?
Yes, it's the dish for Starlink internet. It's a crazy piece of hardware too
It reminds me of a Star Trek saucer section but also a hidden Q.

I just looked up the cost, it isn't cheap.

Holy shit, that's a decent speed. I take it this is all downlink speed? What (if any) is the uplink speed?
Last I tested it was like 30. I rarely upload anything though
