Gates made a similar statement about donating or redistributing their wealth after death. Now this makes alot more sense, they're not actually in control of their own capital.
Buffet is absolutely in control, but (legally) it is not HIS capital.
It legally belongs to the trust or foundation, but HE controls the trust or foundation. So, it is no different really than if he owned it, but legally he does not, which creates a beneficial sitiuation for him.
