Same - we decided fuck it - and came to Florida for the week. I haven’t felt free in over a year. The sun combined with not wearing masks in most places has truly been a blessing for my entire families mental health. We have two days left and I plan on enjoying every minute of it.
I'm so glad you were able to experience it and are feeling the restorative effects. I live in FL and have felt so fortunate to be here throughout this.
The first weeks we were locked down, we would go for daily walks as a family after the 4 of us teleworking all day. We would see sooo many families out walking - 5 times the normal - and usually I see just one person walking (not in a family group.) We live in a rural area with everyone owning large lots and everyone was out getting sun and exercise and (I think) talking through their anxiety of being in a "pandemic" for the first time in their lives.
Later, I would go to Disney World (have a pass to use up - yes, I know they were evil - hopefully they can earn redemption by doing the right things moving forward) just to get out. I would marvel at all the people from other states who were brave enough to travel and enjoy Florida entertainment despite what they were being told. The fact that Disney stayed open and increased the percentage of the people in the parks, despite liberal Orange County policies, told me that there was no data about super-spreading events. Plus, Ron DeSantis had a lot of power to override the liberal county government officials overseeing the theme parks to get them open.
One day I got out of the rain in Hollywood Studios by ducking into the museum about Walt Disney. I would move around the exhibits and found myself staring at pictures of him, wondering how he became the man that allowed all the evil to infiltrate our lives. I loved the Disney movies growing up, had many Disney story books, soundtracks, and passed that love on to my daughters.
One is now working for Disneyland, made it through the furloughs, and is helping plan now for the re-opening. I've warned her she will find out bad things soon (she's too busy and stressed to mentally handle it all now.) I know a lot here hate Disney and won't spend money ever again on them, but remember those like my daughter who were taught to love it, and have their dream job or at least employment there now. Anaheim is decimated right now. These are real people suffering. I hope we can demand Disney confess the evil, make real amends, and enable people to enjoy the magic at the parks again. We as a family have countless great memories at Disney World.
I hope so about Walt. But I've had people who have researched DIsney tell me that he definitely was involved. And yes, it crept into the movies from those who had an agenda.
I didn't know about the homelessness in Anaheim. My daughter is working really long hours so I'd better check in with her.
I'm betting when Ric Grenell becomes governor this summer that he'll fix things real quick!
Thinking about Anaheim. We visited her in 2018 and of course went to the parks, and I found it odd that an area right around a successful Disney park was so run down. That was a mostly middle-class, conservative area for decades (my FIL used to live in Orange in the 50s.) Plus, I went there often in the 80s/early 90s when I was stationed in CA, and I don't remember seeing it so run down then? What f*ckery did the elites do to prevent that area from also enjoying in the park's success?
I know the plan was to drive down expensive real estate prices in cities so the corporations could buy them up. I'm guessing Disney may have had some master plan to expand with the prices so low? They were pretty boxed in there.
Hideous. I hope things turn around for you this year, patriot
I went to a public library yesterday here in famously free Florida.
They literally kicked me out and called the cops.
Big neckbeard kid at the door after calling the cops kept saying "I'll take you outside." Smiling, I said "Yeah right, Softie—you work at the library. You touch me, and I'll sue the soy out of you. Go step outside by yourself. I told you people I have a medical condition that precludes wearing the mask. You're librarians, presumably you can READ the actual mandate, where it says people like me are not required to wear a mask on public property."
They held firm like good little commie tools, but I definitely got the attention of every single patron in the building. Because the personnel were rudely speaking over me, I had to raise my voice to finish making my inarguable point. The citizens now know they can have a voice, should they choose to use it.
As I calmly strolled out, Softie cried, "The police are on the way!" I turned and remarked with a [visible] grin, "Oh now you LOVE the police and don't want them defunded. You hypocrites. Like you, the police work for the citizens—not the other way around. Read up!"
