Why is the gas tax not "the obvious way" anymore? Is it because it gets lost in someone's pocket first?
It's time for a reset, and not one of "The Great" variety.
Electric vehicles.
The government ought to stick to a balanced budget just like the rest of us have to. If you don't have the money, then something else has to give or you do without. We can't give ourselves raises, so why should the gov't be able to do it via raising taxes?
Also, you have an obligation to take care of your own family before you send your neighbor down the street a big, fat, blank check.
Couldn’t we just stop sending all of our money to other countries to help them build their infrastructure instead? China doesn’t need our investment in their infrastructure. Let someone else build Africa’s infrastructure. Or the Saudi’s in the Middle East. They all have cash.
It’s not about other country’s infrastructure though, IMO. They send money oversees to other governments, who then in turn send the money back to the US lawmakers’ personal accounts or foundations. It’s a giant money laundering scheme for those in power.
Granted. But their infrastructure is the excuse for why we send it.
“Tell me Mr. Buttgieg, how do you respond to your critics who ask why the US is sending 1.3 Trillion dollars for infrastructure development in Sudan, Nairobi, China, and Europe instead of using that money for the benefit of Americans here, without having to raise taxes?”
