Fauci was doing this from Day 1, but Birx called the media and clearly political “health organizations” out on a couple of occasions. There was that one press conference where she called China out for lying about their death rate/case count. She was upset about the accuracy of tests last spring.
I noticed a clear shift in her tone and narrative after Business Insider published that story about how she got pissed that they’d decided which states to send Remdesivir to without giving her a chance to look at the data. They quoted her as saying, “I can’t trust anything coming from the CDC.” After that article, all of sudden no one cared about Birx’s scarves, and she wasn’t on the briefings any more. She disappears for a solid chunk of time and then was back in the spotlight in August for going to different states and telling them to lockdown again. That all-or-none message wasn’t what she stuck to originally.
