Crimea became Russian in 1783. For some reason Khruschev assigned it to Ukraine but back then it made little difference because they were both in the USSR.
When the USSR broke up things became more difficult because Crimea was still largely Russian-speaking and they preferred to remain Russian. Then we had the US and EU organising a colour revolution which convinced Ukraine to become more Western in its outlook.
However, the Crimeans still wanted to be Russians and when the previous president fled to Russia they voted to join him.
If The West had not imposed a regime change all would have been well but they just had to stick it to Russia and gain control.
They were Russian-speakers who wanted OUT of Russia.
Let me offer an analogy: America is full of English-speakers who wanted OUT of England.
That so-called election was just as fraudulent as the machines counted a few months ago -- or have we forgotten that already?
