Went to Menards to buy a new mattress & a few other things last week my husband and were stopped at the door and told We needed a masks I said I don’t do masks , at that point the guy came from behind the counter and told me he gets fined for everyone that comes in without a mask I said you get fined and he said yes I’m tired of losing money because people come in without a mask so I proceeded to politely give him information about what’s on The CDC official website and other information about masks being harmful to our health , he again told me he’s tired of loosing money because people won’t comply, I replied so this really isn’t about your concern for anyone’s safety it’s about your pocketbook and they are punishing you monetarily for me not wearing a mask he said yes I agree with you but I’m loosing my bonus check , at that point I either give in because I feel bad for him or I stand up and say enough is enough I told him I’m sad because I was going to spend $600 -$ 800 on a mattress which probably would have helped your bonus check but now I will go to a furniture store down the road and purchase a mattress from them because I won’t comply to these idiotic demands because you said with your own mouth it’s not about our safety it’s political and it’s about your pocketbook. Shame on you Menards it’s a disgrace for you to punish your management staff monetarily for me exercising my constitutional right and protecting my health buy not wearing a mask. I did buy a mattress from the furniture store without a mask it was on sale and I got a better mattress and saved $150 yea!! God!!!!
Got a few to say about this:
Menards have mattresses?! I've been in 2 different Menards and haven't seen a mattress anywhere other than patio furniture...
About the moist snotrag requirement, yup, been there, done that and now I refuse to back there again. My family and I went to Menards and we don't wear masks at all (my wife and I are deaf and my child is under 10 years old, which makes us all exempted from the mask mandate policy) and we entered the front door. We got stopped by a "greeter" and they told us to put our masks on. I politely told them, "Oh no thanks, we're good" and tried to move forward but they blocked the turnstile. They directed us to the front desk clerk and we went over there.
Explained to the front desk clerk that we're exempted from the mask mandate policy and they said they understood but unfortunately they can't honor that. Then they immediately called the supervisor (or at least what I assumed to be a supervisor) over. I spoke to the supervisor and explained to them about our situation and even showed the super proof (I had a picture that I took off the governor's twatter page explicitly stating that we're exempted) and the super said, "I understand but we're a private company and we do not follow the state laws or any policies, we do it our way and you guys need to wear masks to enter or you can just leave".
I then told the super about the ADA law and how we're disabled, which means we are exempted (I had to emphasize this over and over) and the super finally said, "Like I said, we are a private company and I don't care about the ADA law so you guys either mask up or get out of here!"
We left then I tried to contact Menards through Twatter and then emailed the headquarters and never got a response back. So yeah, we're not going back there if they think they can control us with the moist snotrags.
Sounds like you're a nice person who didn't want to punish one guy for the stupid Menard's policy he's bound by - but I'm glad to hear you didn't buy anything there. The corporations want to push us around, and the only way we can push back is with our wallets. As they say, you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs. That poor guy and his bonus check are the eggs in this situation. People will get sick of it and stop shopping there hopefully. Now that you've got a new mattress I'm sure you'll sleep just fine despite all of it! :) My advice is not to shop at Menard's for anything. Home Depot is a great alternative.
They demand face diapers in Assachusetts
Ohio too. They're really nazi-esque about it. I haven't been there since they denied me entrance because I had my 10-year old son with me.
I am dealing with management nazis in the old fart's complex where I presently reside. Of 65 apartments, I am the only one--female-- who isn't complying. Many laws are on my side; we'll see how it goes.
