Maybe they realized they could get all their needs met with robots? I don't know. It is a good question.

Klaus Schwab said humans will be integrated with technology, will be Transhuman. Like the Borg on Star Trek. Of course the 1% will control these human robots.

Yeah. This is my main theory as well. I'm not 100 percent sure about that though. There's some things like building air plane engines that aren't automated. Of course you don't need so many airplanes if you kill everyone.
