SSG Pentland may very well be telling the truth. And as a Vet, I know he's been trained to spot potential threats and confront them, to challenge them on why they're in his domain. I don't know everyone in my neighborhood, but I know who belongs here and who doesn't. And if someone or something looks out of place, I investigate. Same with the good SSG.
