Aside from psychotronic-type tech, in terms of Marshall McLuhan's studies on direct 'media effects':
Within 30 seconds of watching a TV screen (where lighted images are projected into your eyes from behind the screen) vs. a movie screen (where the projector aims at the screen not at your eyes) ...... a person habituated to TV will be in alpha brain rhythm. That is equivalent to a light trance, and renders them highly suggestible to subliminal and meta messaging.
Also the excessive graphics (now almost universally present on news programs) deliberately utilize 'Erickson's Confusion Technique' to put people into a trance:
All the various moving, conflicting words, sights and sounds crawling across the screen are meant to overload the conscious mind's processing capabilities and disarm critical thinking - again leaving normal TV watchers open and vulnerable to suggestion.
That’s why when when my parents watch tv and I happen to be in the room, my mind out of the blue will happen to get sucked in to whatever is being projected on the tv screen. It also happens when we go on our phones too
