Isn't their a rumour that he made up the stuff about his family disowning him so they wouldn't suffer any retaliation for his work?

I wouldn't blame him if true. The only way to verify is interview the family but if they were told to go along with it then I guess we'd never truly know. A lie like that is so easily forgiven, to me it's irrelevant
