Consider this. We only ever watch american movies, american tv shows, and listen to american music. Why? Are other cultures not as good? Are we really the best? I can assure you that's not the case. Other countries make incredible movies, no worse than hollywood. The only time foreign movies make it here, they're always subtitled. Why? No one wants to watch subtitles. It's really not a lot of work to dub a movie. For comparison, other countries even translate soap operas. If you don't know, those come out every weekday and they're perfectly dubbed over. That's how easily and quickly it can be done.
Those poor "North Koreans" who don't have freedom of speech, the government controls what they can see on the internet, what they can watch on tv, no outside medicine, no outside clothes designers, no outside music, they're taught false world history where they're the victors of everything, etc..... Wait a minute.....
Muh freedoms
An added note: my parents didn't grow up here and yet understand more about how this country is set up, including the federal reserve, because they learned it in school. I was an all A student in school here and have no idea.
This makes me think of the line from Deadpool 2 where he says his R movie came in second only to the Passion of the Christ for R movies, except outsise the US, where God doesn't exist ?
My wife is from Lebanon and I've gotta tell you, we are generally better at movies and TV than most of the Middle East, but even there i have seen stuff more entertaining than the stale plots and acting we parade around in Hollywood. Europe and Asia have some killer entertainment and i wouldn't be surprised to see that from any country that hasn't comoletely turned its entertainment industry into a pedo-led, agenda-driven industry founded on chrony capitalism (actually funding from China)
An open mind knows no borders. That said, I've met people who've come here after dodging commie bullets just to leave their old countries, and are glad they did. I will also say that one of my first red pills was in the 70s when our family could no longer buy raw milk, because it was outlawed by regulation in out state. Forget the movies... the FDA has done a tremendous disservice to our country by dumbing down our taste buds. One trip out of the country gets you marvelous tastes that are often illegal here.
Most people who watch foreign movies prefer subtitles so I believe there might be a market force for that. It’s because dubbing was seen as destructve (wipes out original actor’s performance) and silly (associated with Kung fu movies). Dubbing is also very expensive, so most distribution companies are fine to just subtitle, since that seems to be what the audience prefers anyway. Compare it to colorizing old black and white movies. The audience for those movies get pissed that the original was changed and the younger audience isn’t really interested in it anyway, so who is the market?
I can see the point of it wiping out the actors original performance, but at the same time if I'm reading subtitles the whole time, then I can't really see what's going on on the screen, can't catch facial expressions and other nuances. I think the audience base would be much wider for foreign movies if they dubbed more.
I mean, the quality of American comics and cartoons have left a vacuum of good content which manga and anime have filled.
K-pop has an incredibly large fanbase in the US as well.
I think we mostly see American media because we are the largest producer of it. I see the point you are making regardless.
I love subtitled movies. In fact it's strange you bring this out because yesterday I was wondering about Coco Chanel; I love the movie Coco before Chanel. She grew up in an orphanage. And ended up mingling with the rich. Just made me wonder if she was one of their victims.
I don't mind subtitles. Having kids, sometimes it's needed. That being said, there's way more shit movies in foreign languages than there are American movies. Why? Because we fucking invented movies. That's why.
And how old are you? I'm 44 and learned everything I need d to o know about the govt and the way things are SUPPOSED to operate in Junior High Civics. I was 12.
With all due respect, we did not invent the movies. Television was essentially invented by a Russian and the French had a lot to do with inventing movies.

So I'm not sure if it's just american egoism or if foreign movies are being blocked because hollywood wants to keep the profits for themselves. There is absolutely no reason to pay a single actor millions of dollars for a movie and there certainly have been very few good movies or shows to come out of hollywood in the last few years. Most of it is recycled content anyway.
I'll put subtitles/CC on normal tv so that I can read to understand when my kids are loud or the show is quiet
