Jesus christ, at this point I'm thinking the Flat Earthers are a psyop made to discredit "conspiracy theorists".
It's not too far outside the realm of possibility, as the term conspiracy theorist in of itself was made by the CIA to discredit people like us.
I've tried talking to flat earthers, and either you are right or they are just absurdly stupid. Not necessarily because the theory itself but because they will all ultimately show that they would not understand (or accept) any sort of proof.
This isn't the 1400s anymore where believing a flat earth is a rational conclusion to observation.
There is a lot of misinformation that gets posted. There is nothing wrong with that. It gives the opportunity to present evidence and show flaws in both sides of the argument. It presents a learning opportunity for many.
Its better to have misinformation that gets debated than censored.
I've seen a few flat earth posts, but its not like they litter the boards. More disturbing are the constant posts of "evidence" that the virus doesn't exist imo. I keep trying to provide evidence and arguments why these posts are not credible, but like Whack O' Mole another keeps popping up, usually from the same source.
For example, the Dr. Derek Knauss video. OMG, so frustrating. He makes a bunch of statements that sound exactly like fear porn, a few of which are bad biology, but most of which are just simply unprovable without actual evidence. I keep asking people to show me how that individual exists at all must less actual evidence that anything he says can be validated.
Yet they keep popping up, as if the actor playing the fictional character Dr. Knauss was God's gift to biology.
Bring on the Flat Earthers, they are a nice distraction.
Again, discrediting by association isnt something GAW needs. We have enough hard yruths to make people swallow, so this to me is a deliberate attack on this forum
If someone wants to discredit us, all they have to do is open any post. The debates will include a lot of misinformation that is easily disproven. The stuff like flat-earth is just more misinformation (or more likely disinformation). it falls into the same category, even if its more obtuse. Even within posts that are not mis/disinformation it is trivial to take a quote out of context to "prove" whatever someone wants to prove.
We can't worry about what others think. We can't walk on eggshells. I suggest we let debate and evidence be our guide. While some censorship is necessary (or it could be a shit show) I think we should err on the side of not censoring whenever something is questionable.
Until something is 100 percent proven, its a theory. We all believe in different theories. We need to stop using our beliefs as another way to separate us. Seemingly psyop theories are not to discredit other theories, they are all theories in the end so pretty much in the dame boat anyways, but rather they as are used to further divide us into smaller groups. We all really need to stop focusing on what someone believes different from us, and focus on the beliefs we share. Keep up this shit and it will keep separating us further. Unity is key, and posts like these speak to the opposite imo. No offense to you OP, just simply putting my thoughts out there.
All knowledge is at the end of the day based on the faith that x theory is true. If x theory can be proven to be false logically it is a false theory.
So far ive yet to see any compelling or consistent evidence FET can work at any level without contradicting observed reality or itself as a theory. If it isnt even internally consistent it isnt worth giving headspace for.
