I was a lurker on here from sometime late last year until the end of March. Then I finally joined. First thing I noticed was all the WWG1WGA gif magic that I had been missing!
Similar situation, I agree that had I known how cool that upvote thing is, I would have been on here sooner! Haha.
I remember the first time I came here and liked a post. I thought, wow, they have the best symbol for the upvote. It does get you fired up. :)

I was just thinking how amazing the post upvote is and the great pleasure I feel when the little gif goes off, as well! I clearly should have made an account sooner. That thing is the best! Where are you seeing this gif? Nothing happens when I upvote except the arrow changed color....
It’s when you upvote the actual post at top left corner, where the big arrow is.
