Apply for a travel visa (if it’s required from your country of origin)costs a couple hundred bucks.
This can be tricky if you can’t show that you have any reason to go back home.
2.take a trip or two here and go back Home on time
This part has options
A. Find an employer that’s willing to sponsor a visa( if you have special skills and/or education.
B. Apply for a green card ( people say that’s hard to get approved but if you seem valuable to add to the population have some skills, education, or are at least middle class where you’re at and have a clean record everyone I know was approved.
After 5 years with a green card and you show that you can support yourself and haven’t broken any laws you can apply for citizenship.
Each step there are application fees. 5 years ago they varied 350$ - 560$ and then there’s fingerprint fees and fee for this and for that they were usually 30-50$. So there were 3 big fees and then a bunch of little ones total was about 2k.
If someone has no family Here.no skills. low education. No savings. criminal record Or a previous deportation then it can get very hard and I’m sure very expensive.
Everything I or friends encountered along the way just seemed like they were making sure you were a good citizen with means to take care of yourself And they were all approved
