My gym membership was cancelled and police called on me after the TX mask mandate was lifted because I wasn’t wearing a mask in the gym. Planet Fitness (yes, I’ll name them). My advice is, fuck ‘em. Take your money to someone that will appreciate the money you give them each month. They are telling you they don’t want you as a client, so there is no reason for you to stay and fight them on it. Take your money somewhere else or buy your own equipment. They won’t say it, but leaving will hurt them.
When taking business law, the first thing I learned is that gym memberships are iron clad. You're not getting out of them. I guess in clown world there is a way.
Law school taught you that? Get your money back. I easily stopped mine for breach of contract and proved it easy with the mask mandate that was not I. The co teact. Get your money back. Now I'm at a month to month gym with no co tract. No mask.
I didn't say law school, I said business law. This was a semester class at a community college. I'm sure a lawyer can do all kinds of things, but if you're just Joe Blow wanting to get out of your gym membership, good luck.
Living in east Tennessee, my gym is a part of a larger corporate health conglomerate of hospitals, doctor's offices, treatment centers, etc. And they just last week announced a "MASK OPTIONAL" status. It's finally freeing to not have to wear a mask while working out, although a few older members still wear theirs. TBH, even when I did wear the "enforced" mask, I had sabotaged them by cutting away the inside layers and leaving only a thin paper gauze outer layer... it was ridiculous looking, and one could even SEE my mouth and nose... but not ONCE did anyone say anything to me about it. It was either because (1) I met the minimal requirement of having something on my face, (2) because people don't really pay that close attention to details, or (3) they were willfully ignoring my scofflaw attitude. No matter, now I'm free to not wear anything while working out, which I do 5 days a week.

They can't ask for proof -- you have the right to privacy under HIPAA.
Technically, no they cant mate. Sue them to hell and back over this.
You should convince them all to walk away.
Wow so weird, im in a state with a mask mandate and go to planet fitness and half the staff and customers arent ever wearing masks and no one cares.

My ymca pulled that shit in November. I then bought a machine and immediately cancelled my membership. These people are SICK
Ummm legally, thats a hipaa violation for them to ask for proof...
The gym I go to in PHX--EOS--isn't enforcing masks.
