That's because it is a rocket. Duh. Exhausted rocket stages are (you guessed it) rockets. Burnt out & mostly empty of propellant. Why "shoot down" something that is already on a death spiral? What would "shooting it down" accomplish, except to scatter the debris at high altitude, increase the landfall footprint, and make it even harder to predict where and when it will land?
because, most reports that I have previously read, refer to it as a failed satellite the recent references to it actually being a rocket was new to me.
Was this a recent launch of some payload that I missed ? When did the launch happen ?
