I am considering The Shoals area. The coastal area seems a little gritty for my young kids but hey....i don't know and thanks for any info guys!

awesome. i do like the location of montgomery! thanks :)
Montgomery is super boring. Believe me. You might want to look in to Grand Bay. It's the best little town no one has ever heard of. Minutes away from Mobile, Biloxi and Nawlins. You're maybe an hour from the beach at Dauphin Island.
Otherwise, I'd say look in to the Florida Panhandle. Super cheap dirt and always close to the beach. No INCOME TAX in Florida, and we have the most based Guvnah in the world.
so true. as if FL was appealing enough....ol Ron brings it the fuuuck home. thanks! S. AL/ N. Fl actually has some cool homes available
You're welcome! There are some nice areas around the city. The farther east, the outskirts, are nice. Most of the public schools are failing, sadly, but they've got some of the best magnet schools in the nation and charter schools are becoming more popular. There are also a lot of private Christian schools.
I’m down in the southern end, between Mobile & Pensacola. We love it here. We have lived from Florida to Virginia (and in between), and we’ve been here almost 15 yrs, the longest we’ve lived anywhere. Even down here in the south you get all seasons, only without snow (occasionally we may get flurries or sleet, but not every year). Here everything has been opened for a long while, mask mandate is over (though I didn’t wear one, as some others didn’t either). Where I am, you can drive to Pensacola in under an hour and same to Mississippi, and about another hour to New Orleans. This area has been building up over the years. Depending on the area of County where I live, you can reach the beach from a few minutes (if live close to there) to about an hour if live further north of beach. It takes us about 40-45 minutes. They also have a dog beach, and fun summer attractions down towards the beach for kids & teens. Here you can go from living close to everything to being out in remote more wooded areas. Lots of greenery here, as I like to say compared to somewhere like south Florida (Tampa, Orlando or Miami). Compared to northern states or even Florida, price of homes, home insurance and property taxes are cheaper (depending on area you live, always choose to live in the County instead of city, everything is generally cheaper in the county and less restrictions). We do pay state tax here.
wow thanks. i'll definitely check that area out. pensacola and new orleans nearby is awesome. The Shoals actually has an incentive thing to move there & they'll pay you $10,000....some up front, some after 6 months and the last 5K after the 1st year. But now that i've been looking at AL, might go further south
We vacation in the flora/bama and forgotten coast area all the time. Great beaches, small towns, souther style.
Got my toes in the sand a beer in my hand, life is good today.... you know the rest
awesome! i've been looking in that area since the other response! it looks pretty nice. my husband has me scared of gators in the yard!! and snakes. haha
cool! I haven't actually ever been there but the more i'm learning, the more appealing it gets. yes was talking of that NE corner. we would like to be on the outskirts but not too far since the kids need to do stuff haha
Have family that lives in Hanceville near cullman
Why not push a little east into FLA?
very tempting. love FL. figured cost of living was a lot more there.
Cost of living not bad on the Panhandle. Closer to the beach, yes. Niceville area is reasonable and a great place for kids to grow up. Very red area. If you want to go down the west coast check into Bradenton (close to Sarasota). It's an up and coming family oriented area.
awesome thanks!
Anytime Pede. This is where I have haunted my whole life. Anything I can help with, let me know. We'll be lucky to have another based Pede in Bama or Florida.
FL/AL line is calling my name for some reason.
The only problem with this area is the lack of a good International Airport. Mobile really sux, and P'Cola ain't much better.
f'n hell yea thanks!
Take a look at at Holley/Navarre. Great place for kids to grow up. Down the road in Gulf Breeze has been voted one of the best places to live in America a few times. To the north of the Bays you have Milton/Bagdad that will have reasonable home prices.
