It would be real nice if I could even get an interview. Trying to land anything in IT at this point, and I’m striking out left and right. I live in IL and have been applying for mostly remote jobs so we can move to the Athens, TN area. Does anyone have advice on landing a job in another state before you move there? We want to move yesterday.
@bojackjohnson: please forgive me if what I share with you is nothing more than what you've already heard, over and over. If I were going back into IT, I would ensure my certifications cover as broad a range as possible of Network Security, and Network Architecture along with programmable routers. And THEN, every cert I could find even SORT-OF related to mobile & wireless traffic. LOTS of places have long-since gone to "bring-your-own-device" networks. Yes, that format can work well if the organization will just establish some appropriate (read: restrictive) policies and enforce - without exception.
With all of that in your quiver, I'd say start checking the medical-care organizations and hospitals in Nashville, Knoxville and the triad (Kingsport-Bristol-Johnson City). Realize, the universities and tech-schools in Central and East Tennessee probably have all the talent they can stand... but it might be worth checking their HR pages on the web. Hey, even some of the HIGH SCHOOLS, Jr. Highs and Elementary Schools need their own tech gurus.
Elsewhere in TN? I can't recommend anything but Central and East TN (but I'd be glad to be corrected and to hear some good news about Memphis and Jackson). And no, I haven't been to Chattanooga for DECADES but I have fond memories of a BUNCH of super people there; Black, Bronze, White, Red and Yellow from back in the OLD days. I'm hopin' that sweet Tennessee spirit has not died.
I count it a privilege to uplift you and your loved ones in Prayer. If you're goin' to Tennessee, you're taking part of my heart with you. GBY, bojack and may His Loving Holy Spirit guard and guide you through your search and relocation.
I heard from an HR person that they won't consider anyone more than an hour away. Just do it - make the move first. Rent a cheap apartment. That's what our family did. We moved from California and now live south of Nashville. Tennessee is great!
