C'mon guys...think for a minute. Is this new? Why would they be doing this? Answer 1 is no - analyses and development of alternatives to existing capabilities has been on-going for a long time. Why? Here's two examples: at the tactical level, fuel and ammo are the major stresses on the logistics system, Lighten the load with alternative power and lighter ammo, we have more capacity. At the strategic level, (this is not advocating for anthropomorphic causation) climate change can (and does) destabilize nation states and can lead to conflict, we need to be ahead of this for developing contingencies.
The fundamental role of the US Army is to be prepared to kill people and break things. We can't do that well if we are reactive because of lack of planning or if we are limited/slowed by our logistics burdens.
Hmm, considering that the biggest polluters are often socialist states who forbid private property ownership...(because private property owners, at least on a 'quid pro quo' level, neither want to have their property damaged nor do they want to be sued for 'environmental damages') couldn't this be good thing? And what about the damage lithium mining does to the environment?

When has the climate ever NOT changed? This is nonsense.
Bullshit! Think what you will...but this is pure bullshit.

It wont be they already said the US has to be so broken it looks like it cant come back before they get enough people to go ahead.
