Hey, I have stuff on soundcloud too; but in my real name, so I'm reluctant to post the link :) I used to compose songs using Musescore. It's free, but a lot of the instrument sounds are pretty cheesy, especially trumpet, which is what I have been learning to play. It seems like trumpet would be an easy one to reproduce electronically, because it is a pretty pure tone, but it sounds like some cartoon on Musescore. Oh well, you get what you pay for :)
I have composed songs in several genres, but jazz is my favorite. The hardest thing is to write an improve turn (I'm going blank on the correct term). What might take a minute to improvise when playing an instrument takes about an hour to write so that it sounds like it's being played as an improvised turn.
