I think Yeadon is alluding to the point that he is retired, he is now targeted, fully harassed and they have decimated all his economic and career foundation.
I think its a personal statement, NOT a general statement about everyone.
Sacrifices like his actually make freedom more possible for others, like you and me.

No dude, he’s not making a metaphor or personal statement. Did you read what he said?
He’s making an existential statement on the current state of humanity. Human freedom had been extinguished in every part of the world. There are pockets of freedom about, but the general state of humanity is no longer that of freedom.
