Yea, as soon as you get past security, no one cares. I was so bored walking around maskless that I had to try to get harassed! i went up to cops asking for direction and they just helpfully directed me.
At one point, I went into the store to buys stuff and a little non-binary koolaid hair asked me if I had a mask, I told xim "No, but I am wearing extra thick underwear." He laughed and dropped it.
face diapers were only mildly enforcd on 3 out of 4 flights. On the 4th flight, an extremely effeminate "male" was double masked, so I knew "he" would be trouble. Sure enough, "he" insisted that covering my nose wasn't enough, it had to be up to the bridge of my nose.
"You are one of the COVID cultists, aren't you?" I asked nicely. He didn't think it was nice.
Anyway, for the most part, even flying through JFK can be done with a strong degree of face diaper defiance.
Good for you. I've gone into three establishments now in southern California and no one has said anything. I think they know they can't now and don't want to anyway.
SoCal here - haven't worn a mask this whole year and it's been rare occasions where a store employee asked me to put on a mask. I've had to leave. No big. It's CA, Stores everywhere!
Oddly enough, young hispanic women seem to be the most common mask-harassers. Dunno why. So I go to lines with male checkers and the problem vanished.
I suspect the common sentiment is that many of these employees NEED us to fight for THEM by not wearing masks. Unless they are specifically tasked with telling people to put on masks, they don't do it.
