It strokes your ego by saying what you have is so special, and it makes the opportunity seem foolish to reject because believing no one gets any deals means your enemy doesn’t need any from you anyways. It makes it look like “we’ll offer you a way out to make it easier for both of us” more than “we need this deal to get anywhere at all.”
