CHINESE CULTURE: ANNUAL YULIN DOG FESTIVAL. (WARNING: All info is graphic).
Yulin Dog Meat Festival (or Lychee and Dog Meat Eating Festival) is a controversial festival held in Yulin, Guangxi during the summer solstice in June. It is estimated that since 2009, almost 15,000 dogs were consumed each year during "festivities."
The Chinese believe the meat is more tender and has greater medicinal qualities if the dog is killed slowly over time. They are boiled alive, skinned alive. This dog meat costs more. Some may take a week to kill. https://petsfans.com/yulin-dog-festival/
A small group of Chinese PhD students in the US adopted puppies from the animal shelter a few times. They fed them well for a week or so then one day beat them with sticks to make the meat softer. Then killed and ate them.
Years later. A Chinese PhD student in the US wanted to adopt a puppy for unknown reasons. The woman at the shelter was hesitant and said “a dog is a big responsibility, you have to take care of it.” The clerk was afraid of being called out for racism or something. But the suggestion was clear.
