Marco Polo was quite famous for going from Europe to China. Is this their not-so-subtle way of saying they are just bringing something back from China (that nobody in the west wants)?

Ugh, sounds plausible. Marco Polo is also a game you play blindfolded while fumbling around in water, chasing voices. Kinda like sonar, only above water.
