eh, he wasn't anonymous but i get your drift. I think socrates is better, he'd be the first i can think of although he wasn't anonymous either. Just liked asking questions and challenging authority and demagogues

I really liked Socrates too.

Something to consider: Everything Socrates did was through the words of Plato.

So we're not really sure how much is Socrates, or how much is Plato.

That's actually wrong. Socrates taught Plato and Plato taught Aristotle.

Check out the second paragraph, in that blog, concerning Socrates:

Since he did not write philosophical texts, all knowledge related to him is entirely dependent on the writings of other people of the time period.
