Clockwork Orange movie and Fear and Loathing book, yes. 1971.
Tho it just dawned on me that the Fear and Loathing movie, and Kubrick's last project, Eyes Wide Shut were in theatres less than a year apart. Kubrick was either trying to tell us something, or was simply rubbing it in our faces in a grand fashion throughout his entire career.
I think the cabal killed him because of Eyes Wide Shut and what he was trying to say with it. I heard (now I can't find the reference) that a climactic scene involving a satanic altar was cut from the movie.
I bet you're right. Those themes are already there, they just aren't fully drawn out - they are all sort of on the periphery. Like what exactly is with the costume guy randomly having an underage daughter who is available for hire. What is with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's daughter disappearing at the end in the toy store? These things are never really elaborated on, they are just sort of ambient oddities.

He died before it was ever released. Rubbing it in our faces maybe, but he obviously crossed a line that certain people didn’t want crossed.
