Hypothetical:
If my BEST FRIEND was talking to my 12 year old about these matters, I would kick the fuck out of him and never speak to him again.

Teacher here: Things are rigged against us. Larger classes, more tests, more standards, more certifications, more requirements, inadequate ways of teaching, and making sure kids are bored make teaching very difficult. The only way to meet all of the math standards is to have math in science, and ELA. How do we get the writing time done, we write math problems too. How do we cover all of the standards? Define teaching as “the student will be exposed to these skills...”. This does not include how we need to cover pride month, black history, cultural diversity (IMO - it’s nice to add some cultural flavor to a lesson, but I don’t think kids should be allowed to know more about Aztecs then the American Revolution in America). Again, my opinion, but we need to teach the common history that ties us together, rather than learn how evil America has been. After all, bad people do bad things. That doesn’t mean that all Americans are responsible for the evil of the Masons...
You're supposed to fail. It's by design. Prioritize materials with no value, and teaching approaches that don't work, so those struggling do worse and those doing well give up.
Understand, on it's own communism doesn't fair well in argument - the alternative arguments win all the time. In practice, in principle. Communism fails morally and it fails in it's results.
So Communism's core approach is to first destroy the functional system it will be compared to so they can blame the functional system for the failures and market communism as a solution.
Communism is the kid who can't paint well so spills paint on other kid's work so theirs don't appear so bad by comparison. Spilling proverbial paint on your teaching is the very goal.
Very well put.
You have so much information wrapped in such a small space, I would call this a Truth Bomb! Thank you Fren! That was the final piece I needed to morally walk away from the curriculum and simply do what is best. I have tried so hard to follow the rules, but your statement gives me the truth I need. I will fail the system to teach better.
There are lots of ways to fail the system, lots of ways help your kids.
Teach them the truth and you may not last long. Teach them to find the truth for themselves and you'll be by their side long after they've left your classroom. No matter what the subject there is an opportunity to enstill healthy skepticism and the skillset to think for themselves. Only those who never learned to recognize truth for themselves abdicate the responsibility to think for themselves to a propoganda box.
The war is long upon us but the battlefield is not what we prepared for. It has come, and it has called you. Answer that call and be lifted by the generations before you who knew burden and bore it to give us the fighting chance we yet still have. Fight hard, and smart, to give your students that same fighting chance.
Well said :)
Leave the public schools and start a co -op. There are many homeschool parents who could pool resources to hire a based teacher like you to teach their kids. Many parents who decide to homeschool feel overwhelmed teaching some subjects and would love the option of hiring a teacher for those subjects. Just a thought as it may be much more rewarding and freeing than fighting upstream in the communist public school systems. Blessings fren.
Maybe not in my area. I quit being a scout leader because I couldn’t get help from parents. Our Governor spent a few years talking about how over paid teachers are (true in large cities, not in smaller communities). I personally would support cameras in the classroom that had a internet feed. That would allow parents to follow when they want. Then parents could be part of the review process.
Nothing is more important than math. I wish I paid more attention to it.
Math is the very programming language of the universe, as an adult I understand that now but my brain is too smooth to get much better at it.
I thought so too. I failed math in High school so often they put me in Special Ed math. I finished my College degree just before I turned 40. I became good at math when a college professor taught it like mechanics. I learned math is actually hands on, visual, and makes mechanical sense. I will never remember equations, but I can understand that pie is actually the relationship between the radius and the circumference of a circle (3.14 times the radius is the outer diameter of a circle). I went from (he is too stupid for math... to an A in calculus! Check out this site. I use it in my teaching. Pay attention to the videos and evidence. Jo Boaler really did take inner city kids from doing horrible, to learning at a high level... you can do it!
