The cause of the problem was modified juices made by users at home to get high. Ordinary vape is low risk. This story disappeared when the REAL problem was proven. But enormous damage to this industry was already done. I guess vape doesn't show enough respect for the fine Turkish tobaccos used in hookahs. WI's Vicki Porter testified before Congress at the time to argue the subject, and went viral for the way that mooing cow Tlaib shamed & accused her.
It definitely wasn’t home made nicotine vape juice. It is surprisingly easy to do at home and takes very few ingredients. Your biggest risk is either having it taste bad or putting too much nicotine into it.
I suppose the same method to make the bad thc carts could have been done at home by many people. I learned how to make juice years ago by participating in the Reddit group for juice making. There were new threads daily with people asking about making thc carts and even using vitamin e oil.
It’s funny kind of because there were a lot of really well informed users on that board that would always respond about the problems with using oils in vape and the damage it could cause to your lungs. When the cases first started appearing the entire community there immediately knew what the cause was. Yet somehow it took months and a ton of unnecessary regulation for the mystery to be solved....
By 'at home' I merely meant Not Factory Made, but yes I remember them talking about the THC and the Vitamin E elements in modified juices that caused the trouble, whereas licensed sellers products were perfectly fine and didn't deserve to be smeared or punished. But they did it anyway.
It was never in e-juice, it was always in THC carts.
When people make THC carts they are stripping resin from the flower, which is a very thick oil that isn't the right viscosity for vape carts (too thick). When you make the carts you thin out the oil with terpenes (flavor) and if it's still too thick you don't keep dumping expensive terps into the oil... you use a cheaper liquidizer (usually PV or VG)... but in these cases someone was using vitamin E oil based liquidizer and that is what caused the lung illness.

you're 100% right, i was there reading those same threads.
nobody listened.
it wasn't at home nicotine vaping, it was black market THC carts using vitamin E oil as a liquidizer.
