On my mothers side, my family were copper miners and loggers in the Keewenaw Peninsula of the UP of Michigan. They came here from Norway in 1888 and my great grandfather was born on the boat. My great great grandfather died after being hit in the head with a hammer by a strike breaker. He fought in Cuba during the Spanish American War. His son died in the trenches of France in WW1. His son, my great uncle, was an Army Air Corps pilot on December 7th 1941 based at Hickham Field.
My Dads mothers side of the family came to Noggins NS during the potato famine in Ireland. They became fishermen and some live there to this day. My grandmas youngest brother was on the oil tender next to the Arizona. He was thrown into the water and had to swim for shore. He eventually saw action in Africa, Italy and Europe as a Chaplain. He attained the rank of Colonel and died as a Monseignor in the arch diocese of Cleveland in 1988.
His dads side came here during the Civil War and my great great grandfather was conscripted into the Union army as he walked off the boat. They were "shanty Irish". No Irish need apply. The slaves he fought to free had more privileges than he did.
So I ask what white privilege? My family has fought tooth and nail to achieve what humble wealth we have created. My generation is the first to get a college education. We are blue collar, through and through. We have shed blood, sweat and tears for this nation. Some of my ancestors were below the freed slaves on the pecking order. Others barely more than paupers.
They can take their white privilege and shove it right up their asses.
You are my people, all Americans with stories like this are my brothers and sisters. No matter how we came to be in America at this blessed moment, it was through God that we are here to bear witness to the events about to happen, and if we are truly blessed, to do our part in the Great Awakening.
My children are all 1/2 first generation Americans. My wife is a Canadian immigrant. She got her green card on 9/11/2001. No shit that is the date on her card. She became a citizen on July 4th, 2012. Her family came from Wales in the 1850s to the farm country of SW Ontario. They worked the fields. My wife was detassling corn and flipping tobacco since she was 8.
