When they say “trust the science” what they really mean is trust the scientist. I worked in research for several years. Far too many of the scientists I worked with, whether MD or PhD, valued their ego much more than the science.
Exactly, but as long as they all agree to take whatever each other says as gospel, the house of cards remains. The more importance they give their buddy’s suffix, the more they give to their own. Giant circle jerk except with an unfounded sense of superiority, instead of just shame.
This, I worked with some for a time also and holy moly were the egos huge and from people that could barely hold a normal conversation or remember to wear pants.

Back then, I thought I wanted to work in research. That experience cured me.
