well Carl Sagan is WRONG. Sometimes learning you've been bamboozled is exactly the thing to explain all the mystifying shit that you went through. A coworker friend in her 50's related her RELIEF to learn that her parent was a narcissist and that she WASN'T crazy or the source of all the family problems like she was told. Over FIFTY YEARS of bamboozling done to her! Her stories were so miserable, but now she says she is a different, happier person for learning the truth. I believe her.
Your co-worker's experience is valid and must've been quite difficult. I can relate because I too suffered at the hands of a narcissistic parent. It took me many years to figure out that some humans are predatory. I've since read quite a bit about that specific personality disorder.
Obviously as a young person I simply had NO idea that people like that even existed. The projection, blame and gaslighting are unreal. What I don't know is if that experience caused me to be hyper vigilant/ultra skeptical???
I was adopted at birth so I give thanks to God every single day that I wasn't aborted. And also give thanks that I share no DNA with the NPD bamboozler who is unfit to call himself my father.
It was her PARENT. It's natural for a daughter to "submit" (as you call it) to her parent. A little child depends on the adult parent for everything! By the time she was a teen, she'd been brainwashed to believe over a decade of lies. Just went downhill from there. Very sad tale.

Narcissism is rampant due to our diseased society. The cure, unfortunately is distancing yourself. IMO.
ABSOLUTELY. 100% NO contact is the only way.
It’s hard, but seeking Peace is THE WAY. ??
50 years of submission kinda proves his point don't you think?
