All my childhood years playing Silent Hill taught me exactly what a pipehitter is.
This is what I was thinking, it was a game or movie reference.
For those of us who never played, what is the connection?
Pipes are a weapon in every Silent Hill game. You hit things with it.
I've also heard the term used for special forces, but can really apply to any direct action unit. Not large units, more platoon or squad sized.
I always heard it as strike teams, designated for special missions, heavy hitters, etc.
