As a Canadian, this is horrific, but we have to understand this wasn't mass murder. Many children died of consumption, aka tuberculosis. The reasoning behind the need for residential schools is sickening, and Justin's father Pierre was a proponent. Overcrowding of the schools is thought to be the cause of the spread and accounts for over 70% of the deaths.
The government of the day had two options: Educate the indigenous people or commit mass genocide.
