I now cough loudly and uncontrollably when I walk by the masked zombies. I'm faking it, of course. But I will tell you it's very satisfying and I suggest you try it.

Interesting, I didn't know that! Yes, definitely look into it further.

Another one I find helps me re phlegm is Potassium Gluconate. I started taking it to slow down a fast heart rate and help with foot cramps. Reading reviews some guy mentioned he takes it to dry his mucus up. I'm less mucus-y when I take it than when I don't, with or without NAC.

Have to be careful with potassium though. I only take a quarter teaspoon in the morning with a magnesium capsule, maybe another quarter teaspoon in the evening. That's a very low dose only about 10%of RDA. Probably could take more as I don't have a very good diet for potassium rich foods, but don't want to risk taking too much.

Already on potassium . My son had low potassium on his blood work. Reading up on foods good for it he found canned fruit is very high in it, fruit cocktail peaches etc. He was surprised , but it brought his levels up.

from article: People with bleeding disorders or taking blood thinning medications should not take NAC, as it may slow blood clotting (48Trusted Source).

Glad you came up with that, never seen that previously. I take Vit K2 with Vit D3 but as it also plays a role in clotting I'll probably stick with NAC even though I previously had an issue with coughing up blood (long before I started taking NAC). That got resolved taking large amounts of Vit C.

If I do notice bleeding coming back I'll drop the NAC otherwise I'll keep on it. When I started bleeding if I recall I was on Serrapeptase, which I came off as I think that is a blood thinner as well as a clot dissolver You'd probably have to avoid that too.

Have you noticed if you get especially bad with the mucus if you don't eat regularly? Or if you don't eat much protein? My phlegm is't half as bad when I have regular meals especially if there is plenty red meat or chicken involved (still don't eat a lot of veg).

If by any chance your eating habits are as poor as mine eating more regular and more meat might help with your phlegm.

Honestly haven't made that connection , but now I'll be more aware. Thanks. The vit C helped you with bleeding issues ? I avoid vit c supplements because of the citric acid. Figured it isn't good to have sitting in my stomach burning.

While I'm hunting the site I'm looking for - it was a really old and crappy looking site, hope it's still there, (tried to cheat and see f duck duck would show it so I didn't have to hunt through all my bookmarks) came across this which mention Vit C deficiency.

Doesn't actually mention bleeding issues on here - well it might I just skimmed - but it did mention other things which I'd forgot about (muscle and bone pain, lethargy, gum disease, loose teeth etc).

Found it! Well sort of. It was somewhere on this site, I'm sure it was in the resources but at the moment that is taken up by Covid stuff

http://www.orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/index.shtml

There is no bloody search on there so it was probably a lucky accident I fell on an oldish article re Vit C but there are others listed on there (interestingly there is one saying large amounts of Vit C were sent to Wuhan suggesting the Chinese are using Vit C for the Rona)

Here's a personal story of someone taking mega dose 30g for 40 years. (There are also other stories on there worth reading. As it makes clear, individuals differ and often a tolerance has to be built up. If you get loose stools you are taking to much at once and need to drop back (maybe take smaller doses more often). The stool state is the key to your personal level.)

Quote:

*"(OMNS August 9, 2020) I am 78 years old, and have been taking 30,000 mg/day of vitamin C for over 40 years. And I do not get sick! ...."

http://www.orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/v16n41.shtml

(If your tablets are 'high dose' 1000mg (1g) he's taking the equivalent of 30 a day. Gawd, I struggled to fit in 12g as had to do it around eating but I'm sure if I'd doubled the dose I'd have shit myself to death (I'm only 4'10" so got a little stomach haha)

Questions re dosing and how to take:

http://www.orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/v14n12.shtml

Database shows no deaths from mega dosing of any vit, or alternate medicine treatments:

http://www.orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/v17n06.shtml

Vit C helping chronic kidney disease:

http://www.orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/v15n18.shtml

High dose Vit C in pregnancy and childbirth:

http://www.orthomolecular.org/resources/omns/v16n35.shtml

and on and on. Loads of stuff on treating viruses with mega doses.

You might also want to look at the benefits of sodium ascorbate vs ascorbic acid as one might suit you better. There is an article on there by Dr Susanne Humpries re treating whooping cough with high dose Vit C (sodium ascorbate). I had whooping cough as an infant and often wonder if that left long term issues.

The docs on there believe they can cure most things with high dose vits, preferably intravenously but oral ingestion still works well it just takes longer.

That should give you plenty to read and research and hopefully you'll find things to help you. Man, it's a crappy site though. :)

Yes, if you look up on Vitamin C deficiency, bleeding issues are one of the flags. Nose bleeds, excessively bleeding cuts etc. That surprised me I was unaware of that. There are also other clues, patches of 'chicken skin', sort of raised bumpy patches on the skin.

I had a small patch on my forearm which I assumed was from resting it on the chair arm at my computer all day (I'm self employed web designer and don't watch TV so I spend both work and leisure time on computer). However that cleared up after the Vit C (not totally but it is way smoother and normal than it was.

Same with a rough patch on my leg, although that is proving difficult to shift. Even had a tiny patch on my face which I put down to age and not moisturizing enough. That's still there but not as bad (and only really noticeable because I know it's there).

Hair is another clue. Hair on head and leg gets kinda 'kinked' and breaks off easily. I thought that was some post menopausal thing so ignored it. When I saw it was another thing associated with Vic C deficiency I was well shit, all these years wracking me brains to fix it and all I had to do was increase Vit C. But yeah, reading about it and the description of low level scurvy, it's pretty serious and effects the heart and eventually if not treated wll I guess it could kill you (remember people used to die from scurvy) Deficiency as 'low level' scurvy may take much longer but it is wrecking the health.

Go slowly if using Vit C, you can try the buffered one, but they are expensive. I just get the powder. You can take more of it the more deficient you are. It's basically taken to bowel tolerance. Strangely enough if I drink a large glass of orange juice I will get the runs but that didn't happen with the Vit C powder (plain ascorbic acid) at first. I couldn't take it during a meal else I would get the runs, for me I was able to take it half an hour before a meal or an hour after. Others handle it better with a small meal.

I'll go find a very enlightening site with some holistic doctors treating all kinds of diseases with mega doses of Vit C that gave me the courage to try such high doses. Obviously taking prescription drugs you'll need to take extra care, but I'd definitely think about upping your Vit C (and maybe add L-Lysine with it to strengthen blood vessels)

I'll go look for it.....
