The phrase "don't dwell on the past" was never properly imparted on these people, because a past that isn't theirs somehow entitles them to be lords and masters over other people for a past that isn't theirs.

There is no divide that is wider, and this divide is insurmountable. Not necessarily because we couldn't bridge that divide, but because we don't want to.

You don't have to be a perfect person, you don't even have to be a good person, you just have to understand the difference between right and wrong.
