Pretty proud to have family who's names are signed on that document. History might not mention Whipple and Bartlett as much as Jefferson and others, but they were there and did their part.
I'll be damned if I let what they created die on my watch.
Writing from Philadelphia on January 7, 1776, Mr. Whipple informed Mr. Josiah Bartlett; "This year, my Friend, is big with mighty events. Nothing less than the fate of America depends on the virtue of her sons, and if they have not virtue enough to support the most Glorious Cause ever human beings were engaged in, they don't deserve the blessings of Freedom."
I love that line, but I take issue with something. Not out of the Declaration, but the seditious conspiracy charge. For those unaware of what I'm talking about:
"If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both."
Now as I understand it, this law/charge is actually in directly in conflict with that line. As it attempts to deny our right to throw off the chains of a suppressive government to form a better one. If anyone has any other perspectives on this, please by all means, enlighten me.
