Ariel Henry studied medicine at the University of Medicine of Montpellier, France. He has a master's degree in public health, international health option. He studied neurophysiology and neuropathology at the University of Medicine of Montpellier.

The president of Haiti says an attempt to kill him and overthrow the government has been foiled, amid a dispute over when his term ends.

At least 23 people were arrested, including a top judge and a senior police officer, the authorities said.

President Jovenal Moïse insists his term in office ends in February 2022.

But opponents say it finished on Sunday.

Security officials said there had been an "attempted coup d'etat" and cash and weapons - including assault rifles, machine guns and machetes - were seized as the arrests were made.

A group of US senators, in a letter to new Secretary of State Antony Blinken, has called on the Biden administration to withdraw Washington's support for President Moïse.

Like Donald Trump, Jovenel Moïse has a resume steeped in business, but no previous experience in public office. A successful banana exporter, Moïse earlier helped create a regional power company and ran a water distribution plant, among other pursuits.

"President Trump and I are entrepreneurs, and all an entrepreneur wants is results,” Moïse said in an interview last week with the Reuters news agency. “And therefore I hope we'll put everything in place to make sure we deliver for our peoples."
