The only way this ends well is if the Western countries seize all Chinese-owned assets in the West. Not only stuff (houses, cars, stocks, bonds...) owned by the Chinese govt, but also by Chinese nationals in the West - because you can't determined which of those Chinese nationals are working for the Chinese govt and which are not.
