Haiti is the only country in our hemisphere that has not vaccinated a single citizen. The rising number of COVID-19 cases in my family’s homeland is causing Haitians — like my cousins in Cap-Haitien, the birthplace of the Haitian revolution) — to lose hope as they watch those around them get sick and die. When you are poor and living in the country’s outskirts, and you see very important people die from COVID.
