The population-centric approach shifts the focus of COIN from defeating the insurgent organization to maintaining or recovering the support of the population. While direct military action against the insurgent organization will definitely be required, it is not the main effort; this approach assumes that the center of gravity is the government’s relationship with and support among the population. It can be summarized as “first protect and support the population, and all else will follow.”

Thank you for this. It matches what we see and what we are being told.

"Get involved in local government."

"Focus on educating the population."

"You are the news now."

There are other things going on, but this bottom up approach is really the best way with the fewest casualties and strongest, longest lasting, most secure results in the end. It must have the hard work (blood, sweat, and tears) and personal investment of the population to support it. "Saving" from authority figures will not have the lasting effect we desire.

We are the ones who will create a New Nation. We can't rely on anyone to do it for us.

That is this approach, that is what we see happening, that is what we must accept, and teach others to accept as well as part of our role as educators. This was The Plan all along.
