I'm sure there must be information about it online somewhere. Maybe try the organic prepper, they have good info about homesteading and things like that. Seems like beekeeping would fall under that category. I would love to keep bees, but our property is too small. I can just imagine my neighbors freaking out over that. But when we get more acreage, I will definitely look into it.
We need more and more bee keepers as honey bees disappear from the planet. I’ve seen several articles and a video equating their demise to chem trails and all the crap that comes from those.
And all the pesticides that are sprayed all over crops. Though, it's great to see more companies waking up and offering more organic choices - that tells me people are waking up and spending the extra money on truly organic produce and other foods. I say "truly" organic because I don't believe for a minute that anything the Frito Lay corporation puts out there is organic. They can afford the fine for lying about it like it's pocket change, so they have nothing to lose. They can dupe all the people who don't know better and get away with it. But the more organic we all eat, the fewer pesticides hopefully used, and in turn maybe we can salvage some of these bees.
My grandmother kept bees over in Serbia well into her 90s before she died as recently as 2013. If she can do it, there's no reason I couldn't if I had just a little more land.
I watched a neat documentary showing how beekeepers rent out their hives to other farmers of different plants for pollination. I think the one they were focusing on rented them out to some almond tree farmers in California.
That's truly a wonderful thing! My son has seasonal allergies, and one of the reasons why I'd like to keep bees is to get him the local honey. Can't get much more local than your own back yard. He gets really sick of it but the honey does help curb his symptoms every spring, and I'd rather give him that than pharmaceuticals. At least with the honey, his symptoms are less and less severe each year.
