The US military will absolutely defend Taiwan from China if the good guys are in control. I don't think people realize how important Taiwan is for the entire world when they have a company called TSMC which produces the best wafers for computer chips that the entire world utilizes. They're currently building a foundry in the US since the start of last year but it will not be finished soon enough. I think Trump became aware of this which is why he incentivized it for them to build it in Arizona.
