Wait... is this why they stopped teaching cursive?!
Could be, could be a lot less nefarious as well. Could simply be it wasn't seen as important with the advent of computers. This is kind of a chicken/egg thing, honestly. Keep in mind that OCR algorithms can only read printed text, because they've been trained to do so for the last decade or so, but with cursive being downplayed, the need to program computers to understand it likely also became less important.
...Kinda makes me wonder if it wouldn't be worth it to pick up American Shorthand...
I use to write my journal entirely in Shorthand,,,,just so no one could read it. :) It blows my 64 year old mind that kids aren't being taught cursive or how to read a 'real' clock. WTH?
Lazy teachers, poor budgeting on the school's part, etc.
Also, digital clock readouts are everywhere, so even if kids are taught it, it doesn't stick, because they don't need it badly enough to learn it.
Wonder if I can use that as an excuse the next time my doctor gives me one of those memory tests where you have to draw a clock? :) "I only read digital?"
